The Election Commission has rejected 58,404 postal vote applications out of the 717,918 applications received from public servants for postal voting at the upcoming presidential elections next month.
Accordingly, 659,514 public servants are eligible to cast their postal votes for the presidential poll.
The Election Commission emphasized that the rejected postal vote applicants can cast their vote as usual on the Election Day.
Postal voting will take place on the October 31 and November 01. Public sector employees including those involved in election duties, officers engaged in essential services, police and military personnel are entitled for postal voting.
Officers of District Secretariats, election offices and police have been given the opportunity to cast their postal votes on the 4th of November.
Postal voters who are unable to cast their votes on those days will be able to cast their votes on November 07 at District Secretariat offices.
Meanwhile, the official ballot papers for the presidential election will be handed over to the Postal Service on October 25. November 3rd is the special day for distributing polling cards and the distribution will end on 9th November.
Voters who did not receive their polling cards before 09 November 2019 can obtain them through the post office linked to the address registered in the electoral register by verifying identity.
