GEORGE CLOONEY TOFU
It’s not the first time celebrities have been asked to donate their cells for food production. After obtaining one of George Clooney’s sweat-laced gym towels for a charity auction in 2009, animal-rights organisation PETA asked the actor if it could use the sweat cells to create a ‘Clooney tofu’. It explained it would “spare animals from being killed for the table.” The star's response to the publicity stunt? "As a mammal, I'm offended.”
THE FINGER IN A WENDY’S MEAL
Wendy’s diners were horrified when, in March 2005, Anna Ayala claimed to have found a human finger in a bowl of chili at a branch in California. The outcry cost the chain $1 million a day in lost sales and they stumped up a $10,000 reward for information. A police investigation determined the finger belonged to an associate of Ayala’s husband. The couple pleaded guilty to conspiring to file a false claim and attempted theft. She received a 9-year jail sentence and he got 12 years.
THE JAPANESE MOON MELON
This image of a Japanese moon melon was widely circulated on the internet a few years ago along with a caption revealing how it could switch the flavor of foods after you’d eaten it. The post explained: “Everything sour will taste sweet, and everything salty will taste bitter, and it gives water a strong orange-like taste.” Looks like the result of some basic Photoshopping techniques to us.
