It was by no means pretty, but in the end a win is a win and that’s exactly what the Aussie Prime Minister’s XI recorded on Thursday night against Sri Lanka.
In front of a lacklustre crowd at Manuka Oval, the Aussies skittled the tourists for 131 in the T20 contest before they fell into an early hole in the run chase.
Thankfully the late heroics of Fawad Ahmed and his nine runs off seven deliveries got the Aussies over the line on the final ball of the night.
On hand to watch his namesake side take to the field, Scott Morrison was loving every moment of the night.
From sitting in the commentary box alongside Brendon Julian, ScoMo was later in the stands throwing back a beer before running drinks for the Aussies before being spotted taking a group selfie with the players.
Opener Harry Nielsen was the only batsman able to walk off with his head held-high after finishing the night with a stellar knock of 79 runs off 50 deliveries.
Master blaster Chris Lynn stole the cricket headlines through the week after venting his frustration over not being told by selectors he wasn’t picked for Australia’s T20 squad.
“I don’t mind being dropped (but) to not make a phone call, that lack of communication is very poor,” Lynn told AAP at Kayo’s summer of cricket launch. “And it has probably been poor for a number of years now in Australian cricket.
“There have been plenty of scenarios where blokes have found out online, it’s not that hard to pick up the phone and make a call.”
But the selectors may have made the right call after Lynn failed at the crease against Sri Lanka when he was completely bamboozled by Kasun Rajitha and clean bowled for only three runs.
The Australian T20 squad will take on Sri Lanka and Pakistan in a T20 International Series with the first game getting underway on October 27 in Adelaide.
