President Maithripala Sirisena states that Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) led United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) has proved to be the leading party according to non political survey reports in the forthcoming local government elections.
The research surveys conducted by the scholars and Intellectuals have revealed that the people are rallying around to take the country on the path of clean politics, said the President, addressing the people at Kantale rally, on 21st Jan, 2018.
The President further mentioned that to protect the public property that belongs to the people, to safeguard the funds in the government treasury, and to end the era of corruptions done through tenders in name of development, the victory of Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) led United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) should be assured.
None of the politician from other parties can state their purity on the political stage in a background of plunder and exploit of peoples’ money, disguise in the name of development, said the President. He said that he has already taken forward steps on the people centric political path by making Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) strong as it is a party of small people which is free of corruption and fraud.
The President mentioned that its time to be ready to vote for the UPFA symbol, ‘Bulath Kolaya’ (Beetle Leaf) on February 10th local government election to ensure the victory of SLFP to end corrupted and fraudulent political path, and if any person is willing to vote another party, that would be an act of supporting corruption, bribery, disorder as well as dynasty which ends freedom and democracy of the country.
The President said that he is not greedy for power or does not want to remain Sri Lanka’s President for life and further said that ever since 1978 constitution was adopted, each President who came to power, made amendments to the Constitution or enacted a new Acts, only to strengthen their own power of Presidency, and recalled how he vested all those powers of Executive Presidency with the Parliament for the betterment of the public without any reluctance. He also said that Commissions, which were only limited to the name boards, he made practical and powerful.
Even though it is unfamiliar to commence a new journey, all must unite to strengthen the SLFP at this local government election to create a SLFP Government in 2020 elections. The women’s representation was also increased at this election to ensure their proper representation in national politics.
It is significant that Mr. Sumith Amarasinghe and Mr. Upul Kumara, who were to contest under the Podujana Peramuna banner for the Kadawathgama Pradeshiya Sabha and Gomarankadawala Pradeshiya Sabha respectively, extending their support to the President and joined the SLFP at this rally.
Minister Vijith Vijayamuni Zoysa, Deputy Minister Susantha Punchinilame, Ariyawathi Galappaththi, Abdul Majeed, Nalin Gunawardena, Priyantha Pathirana, Anuruddha Polgampola, Jayantha Wijeratne and people’s representatives were also present at the event.
